What is a neurodivergent-affirmative approach?
A neurodivergent-affirmative approach recognizes and embraces the unique ways children experience, learn, and interact with the world. At Somewhere Over the Spectrum, we believe a neurodivergent approach should be the standard of care for all neurodivergent individuals.
A neurodivergent mind is not something to be fixed or reshaped; it is a mind that brings its own gifts, strengths, sensitivities, perspectives, and ways of understanding the world. Neurodivergent individuals often experience the world with heightened awareness, deep focus, creativity, and unique patterns of thinking that deserve respect and support. When we take the time to truly listen and attune to these differences, we can create environments where children feel safe to be themselves, build trust in their own abilities, and grow with confidence. By honoring the neurodivergent mind, we move away from compliance-based expectations and toward authentic connection, empowerment, and meaningful growth.
Our neurodivergent-affirming approach is rooted in honoring the neurodivergent mind and respecting the many ways individuals process information and experience the world.
Through our holistic, heart-centered approach to ABA, we support learning in meaningful, everyday settings, following each child’s innate curiosity as it leads them to explore, connect and engage with the world around them. We create a path to develop skills that help your child thrive in their own way, nurturing communication, independence, and emotional regulation, all while honoring their autonomy and identity.
We create a community that learns together, embracing neurodiversity, supporting each child’s individuality, and empowering parents to understand, accept, and advocate for their child. Together we are all one, and when we realize that, we create space for deeper understanding, collective growth, and a community where every child and family is truly seen and supported.
